The Pre-Meeting Congress X-61 is converted into a four “ BioEM talks” series.  This series will be held virtually on four consecutive Fridays on July 31st, August 6th, 13th and 20th from 10:00 AM to 1 PM Eastern Daylight Time ( 2 to 5 PM GMT). Each meeting in the series include live presentations with three invited speakers (90 min) , vendor exhibits and pre-recoreded flash talks in the Gather Town virtual space.  Attendees are encouraged to submit 5 min video flash talks along with a PowerPoint presentation of no more than ten slides. These flash talks (replacing traditional poster boards) will be grouped and presented on demand in the BioEM Town Hall along with vendor exhibits.

Participation of Bio EM talks is FREE but registration is required. Details of this series, how to submitting flash talks and enter BioEM Town virtual space will be provided soon.

Electron microscopy (EM) has played an essential role in our present understanding of the fundamentals of cell biology since 1930s. Biological EM currently remains a critical technique in biomedical research to study the etiology of infections and diseases, the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms of pathogenesis and the development of therapeutic interventions.

The Aims

The purpose of this BioEM Talks is to bring Biomedical investigators, EM technologists, engineers and vendors together to discuss various Bio EM research related topics including

  • Advanced biological EM techniques and instrumentation for biomedical research involving metabolic, genetic, neoplastic or infectious diseases;
  • Enhance workflow, reproducibility and automation of biological EM sample processing involving complex tissues in humans, animals, plants, insects or small multicellular organisms;
  • Promote innovation and collaboration for the advancement of bio EM research and funding;
  • Provide an interactive platform to exchange ideas on training and recruiting new talent to join the BioEM field.

Each session of BioEM Talks in 2021 will include 90-minute of live presentations with three invited speakers and 90-minute of interactive virtual tour of BioEM Town Hall where participants can listen to pre-recorded flash presentations (similar to poster boards) and visit vendor booths. Attendees of the BioEM Talks will have the opportunity to chat (video& text) with the invited speakers, flash talk presenters, other participants, and vendors in real time.

The Themes

  • Session 1, July 30th, 2021 : Immuno-electron microscopy and correlative LM-EM, 3D EM workflow, advances and challenges
