PMC x61 — Contemporary Electron Microscopy Advances in Biomedical Research
Organized by the MSA Diagnostic and Biomedical Microscopy Focused Interest Group
Will be held on August 1, 2021
Electron microscopy (EM) has played an essential role in our present understanding of the fundamentals of cell biology since 1930s. EM currently remains a critical technique in biomedical research to study the etiology of infection and disease, the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms of pathogenesis and the development of therapeutic interventions.
The purpose of this Pre-Meeting Congress (PMC) is to bring biomedical investigators, engineers and vendors together with EM experts to discuss innovations aimed at optimizing and improving the EM sample processing workflow through time saving protocols, new instrumentation and automation. A roundtable discussion will aim to initiate cross-disciplinary synergistic interactions toward addressing the many challenges of EM of complex tissues.
This PMC will include four 90-minute platform sessions with 4-6 speakers each session, and a poster session on the following topics:
- Immuno-electron microscopy and correlative LM-EM workflow, advances and challenges
- Automation and streamlining of workflow for diverse EM specimens
- Challenges and best practices in the preparation of plant, insect, aquatic/marine, and pharmaceutical specimens for EM
- Roundtable discussion: instrument-assisted and automated Bio EM sample processing, challenges and applications
